The local, government registered stables closed last year. There are 3 other stables on the island, two very basic, one more so than the other (I’ve not yet visited the 3rd). There are several bigger yards on the mainland, the closest at Changwon and Busan. The best for foreigners, however, is at Tongdo near Ulsan at JK’s yard. She’s on the national jumping squad and speaks good English, has lots of foreigners riding. S-Park in Busan has some English and good facilities. http://www.ridingclub.co.kr/allianceriding/defaultinfo/?rid=5 will take you to a list of the registered stables in Gyeongnam (you have to scroll down to find the info). If your computer has an automatic English translate facility, this will help, or ask someone who speaks Korean to translate. However, pressing buttons will give some information and pretty pictures!
The island stables are:
Dasol Farm, 686, Buchun-ri, Dong-bu (west side of the island), about 30 mins drive from Okpo
Rainbow Ranch: 85 Soobi-2-Gil, Obiri 3, Yeoncho-myeon (Gohyeon, but up a VERY steep, narrow road)
Haegeumgang Tourist Hotel, 78-1 Galgoj-ri, Nambu-myeon.
Dasol has Korean schoolchildren and some foreigners riding there. It is very basic, but the owners are pleasant and there is some hacking out. I’ve yet to visit Haegumgang Hotel, and plan to do so soon.
